Lola debuted with a new membership offering that combines personalized recommendations, live availability and pricing, direct booking, preferred rates, and benefits. Lola brings discovery and booking into a single experience for hotels, restaurants, events, and more, while providing access to rates and benefits traditionally reserved for loyalty programs and premium cardholders. Unlike AI assistants that stop at recommendations, Lola is designed to take people from “What should I do?” to “I’ve booked it.” Members can ask Lola for anything from a hotel or restaurant to an event, activity, or an entire trip. Lola’s launch partners include ResX, BLADE, Aero, SeatGeek, GetYourGuide, Nuitee, and Ten Group, alongside Booking Holdings brands including Booking.com, OpenTable, KAYAK, Priceline, Agoda, and FareHarbor. Lola searches for real-time availability and pricing so members can compare options and book directly through the same conversation. It understands requests in natural language, carries context through follow-up questions, and learns what matters to each member to make future recommendations more personal. Paid plans provide preferred hotel rates, priority dining, airport services, premium transportation, and live concierge access. Search results and recommendations are objective and unbiased, never influenced by vendor payments, featured placements, advertising, or sponsorship. Anyone can become a Lola member for free, with access to conversational discovery, personalized recommendations across multiple categories, current availability and pricing, and direct booking on Lola. Members who want more benefits can upgrade to Plus for $5 per month or VIP for $25 per month, each with a 12-month commitment. Both plans add preferred pricing and benefits through Lola’s partner network, including hotel savings, priority dining, airport services, and concierge support. VIP unlocks Lola’s highest level of benefits and access. The structure gives members a choice in how much they want from Lola, while keeping personalized discovery and booking available to everyone. Lola’s membership benefits are designed to support the different ways members use Lola, from choosing where to stay to deciding what to do and how to get there. Families from Massachusetts affected by a deadly fire at a vacation rental in Barahona, Dominican Republic have filed a civil lawsuit in King County Superior Court against Expedia Inc., Expedia Group, Inc., HomeAway.com, Inc., and VRBO Holdings, Inc.Case #: 26-2-30948-5 SEA. This trip was meant to be a joyful family getaway and a chance for three generations to return to the Dominican Republic, the country of their birth, with the highlight being the christening of two young children. Instead, in the early morning hours of June 13, 2026, a fire engulfed the family's vacation rental. Four people died, including a five-year-old child, and other family members suffered severe and lasting injuries. The lawsuit alleges Defendants did not employ filters, warning banners, interstitial screens, or other meaningful point-of booking safety notices to alert travelers when a listing disclosed it lacked a smoke detector. The Complaint also alleges this is not an isolated problem. VRBO continues to list thousands of accommodations for rent that it knows - because hosts have disclosed to VRBO - do not contain any smoke detectors. Forty days after the fire, Plaintiffs' counsel conducted searches of VRBO listings in multiple Dominican Republic locations and found that the vast majority of available properties did not list smoke detectors, indicating approximately 80% of listings reviewed were "potential death traps" with no smoke detectors. A follow-up search found that approximately 66% of listings reviewed still lacked smoke detectors.

Expedia Group announced a marketing collaboration with Redion, marking the first time a travel insurance and assistance brand has joined Expedia Group Advertising as a dedicated partner. Multi-year partnership opens a new advertiser category for Expedia Group and gives travelers earlier details about travel protection across its brands. The agreement opens an entirely new advertiser category for the company and reshapes how travelers encounter protection options during planning and booking. The addition reflects the accelerating expansion of Expedia Group Advertising beyond its traditional base of hotels, airlines, and destinations. Redion's arrival extends that trajectory into travel insurance and assistance, a category that sits at the intersection of both worlds. For more than 15 years, Redion, formerly known as Europ Assistance worldwide and Generali Global Assistance (GGA) in the U.S., has provided travel protection to Expedia Group customers. This collaboration moves that relationship beyond product distribution into a strategic advertising alliance, with co-branded editorial, on-platform experiences, and targeted activations rolling out across Expedia Group brands beginning in Third Quarter 2026. For travelers, the shift means that Redion can now cohesively appear throughout the traveler's journey to maximize brand awareness and peace of mind.

Uber Technologies, Inc. was ordered to pay $40 million to the parents of Emily Normandin-Parker, a 23-year-old UCLA graduate who was killed after an Uber driver abandoned her alongside freeway traffic during what was supposed to be a safe ride home. The award follows a five-day arbitration in which retired Judge Richard A. Stone rejected Uber’s argument that it merely operates a technology platform and held that the company functions as a common carrier with a non-delegable duty to protect its passengers. In his detailed written decision, Judge Stone concluded that Uber effectively offers transportation services to the public through its app, controls key aspects of the rider experience, sets fares and profits directly from rides. He expressly rejected Uber’s contention that it merely provides a software platform connecting riders with independent drivers and further ruled that Proposition 22 does not shield Uber from vicarious liability for the negligence of its drivers. The arbitration arose from the August 12, 2023 death of Emily Normandin-Parker. Evidence presented during the arbitration showed that after Emily’s friend became sick during the ride, Uber driver Vu Tran illegally stopped on a freeway gore point on State Route 73 rather than exiting to a safe location. The Uber driver demanded payment for a cleaning fee and ordered the two young women out of the vehicle. Emily, who was intoxicated, was left stranded alongside multiple lanes of freeway traffic, where she was struck by several vehicles and killed. Rather than render aid or call 911, the Uber driver left the scene and shortly afterward requested that Uber charge Emily’s account a cleaning fee. Judge Stone found that the Uber driver’s testimony was “largely—in fact, almost entirely—incredible and unbelievable,” concluding that he “needlessly placed” his passengers in danger, showed “far more worry for his new car than he did for his passengers,” and abandoned two intoxicated young women in an unsafe location despite having safe alternatives available. Evidence presented during the arbitration also showed that, prior to Emily’s tragic death, Uber had received multiple complaints about Mr. Tran’s “reckless” behavior, with one customer reporting that he had provided “the least safe” ride he had experienced. Although Uber assured those customers that it was “reviewing [Tran’s] account to determine whether [he] should continue to have access to the Uber app,” the evidence presented at the arbitration showed that Uber did not conduct any review of these incidents. Instead, Uber followed its corporate policy: unless the incident resulted in a citation or death, it would only review safety complaints if it received enough of them, no matter how dangerous the driver’s behavior. As a result, Tran was on the road even though his riders had told Uber: “he cannot drive.” Judge Stone expressed concern with Uber’s broader approach to rider safety, writing that the company should “learn from this tragic incident” and revise its safety policies and procedures. He warned that if Uber failed to do so, it would proceed “at its own substantial risk.” The $40 million awarded by Judge Stone provides $20 million each to Carol Normandin and Ken Parker for the wrongful death of their daughter. After the issuance of the award, Uber fought to keep both the arbitration proceedings and award confidential. It filed a motion and ex parte application against Emily’s parents in Orange County Superior Court seeking to compel their silence. It proposed a settlement agreement that would have prevented Normandin and Parker from making even truthful statements about the company’s connection to Emily’s death, with the threat of a $10 million liquidated damages penalty each time they did. Normandin and Parker refused the blanket confidentiality Uber wanted.

Uber Technologies Inc. announced an expansion of senior accounts, giving older adults more choice in how they use Uber and new ways to customize their ride experience based on their individual needs. Older adults can create and manage a senior account on their own, without joining a Family profile, by tapping the Senior icon on the Uber Account page. Seniors who prefer support can continue to use an account connected to a Family organizer, who can help book and track rides and manage payment methods. All senior account holders can now access features all in one place that are designed to make requesting a ride and meeting their driver simpler, including: Simple mode: An easier-to-navigate app experience with larger text and clearer icons. Pickup preferences: Riders can tell drivers how they would like them to signal their arrival, including calling or messaging, honking the horn, or flashing the vehicle's lights. Optional self-identification: Seniors can choose to let drivers know they are an older adult. When enabled, this information appears in the driver app as the driver approaches the pickup location. These optional features are designed to help give drivers additional context before they arrive, whether that means allowing a rider more time to reach the vehicle or being more mindful during pickup. Riders remain in control of whether they choose to share this information. Uber is also piloting a new easy entry vehicle feature in nine cities for riders who may have difficulty getting in and out of certain vehicles, including seniors and people with disabilities. When the feature is turned on, Uber will look for vehicles with a lower step-in height to help make entering and exiting the vehicle easier. Uber developed the feature with input from accessibility and aging advocates, incorporating feedback from people with a range of mobility needs. Easy entry vehicles are available to riders in participating pilot cities through their Accessibility settings, and they can also be selected through the senior account settings. The expanded senior account experience reflects Uber's continued focus on giving riders more ways to make the app work for their individual needs. Whether an older adult wants to manage rides independently, receive support from family, or customize the pickup experience, these updates provide greater choice and flexibility in how they get around.

WeRide, Uber Technologies, Inc., and AVOMO, the autonomous vehicle division of the Moove Cars Group, in collaboration with the Regional Government of Madrid, announced that they have received Spain’s first national permit for Level 4 autonomous passenger vehicles to operate on public roads, by Spain’s Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) within the ES-AV framework. This authorization marks a major regulatory milestone toward the launch of Spain’s first commercial autonomous vehicle service. The Community of Madrid, with its strong commuting demand and mature ride-hailing ecosystem provide an ideal foundation for autonomous mobility services. This launch marks the beginning of WeRide and Uber Technologies, Inc.’s joint entry into the Spanish market and represents the fourth of the 15 cities under the WeRide-Uber Technologies, Inc. strategic partnership, with another 11 cities to come by 2030. Under this global partnership, WeRide and Uber Technologies, Inc. plan to deploy tens of thousands of autonomous vehicles on public roads to bring safe and reliable autonomous mobility to riders around the globe. Commercial operations in Spain are expected to begin by the end of 2026 following the completion of deployment preparations and the achievement of the necessary operational and regulatory milestones. This deployment further demonstrates WeRide’s asset-light operating strategy. By combining WeRide's autonomous driving technology, Uber Technologies, Inc.'s established mobility platform, and AVOMO's fleet operations expertise, the partnership creates a scalable framework for autonomous ride-hailing deployment. The permit allows WeRide, Uber Technologies, Inc., and AVOMO to begin deployment preparation activities such as mapping, route validation, and operational readiness testing, establishing the foundation for future commercial autonomous passenger transport services under the DGT ES-AV framework. The initial phase will deploy twenty vehicles equipped with WeRide's latest autonomous driving technology, operating under the supervision of an in-car vehicle specialist, and will be deployed across various high-demand areas within the Greater Madrid region. As the first national approval for WeRide's GXR autonomous vehicle in the EU, the permit creates a regulatory benchmark for future vehicle certification and commercialization across the region. The service represents the first planned autonomous vehicle deployment by Uber Technologies, Inc. and WeRide in Europe and is underpinned by Spain's supportive regulatory approach to autonomous mobility under the DGT ES-AV framework. It is expected to establish an important foundation for the future deployment of autonomous transportation services across the country and the broader European market.
